A Causal Framework for Cross-Cultural Generalizability

چکیده
Behavioral researchers increasingly recognize the need for more diverse samples that capture breadth of human experience. Current attempts to establish generalizability across populations focus on threats validity, constraints generalization, and accumulation large, cross-cultural data sets. But continued progress, we also require a framework lets us determine which inferences can be drawn how make informative comparisons. We describe generative causal-modeling outline simple graphical criteria derive analytic strategies implied generalizations. Using both simulated real data, demonstrate project compare estimates further show formally represent measurement equivalence or inequivalence societies. conclude with discussion formal assist in designing studies thus provides solid foundation cumulative generalizable behavioral research.

A Cross-Cultural Framework for Evaluation
The evaluation of information systems (ISs), especially in the healthcare field, is a complex task. Evidently, there is a need for better understanding of the different aspects evaluation. While in the general IS science field there have been several attempts to build frameworks and models to better understand the evaluation of ISs, in healthcare similar frameworks have been almost nonexistent....
متن کاملA Study on Cross-cultural and Cross-dataset Generalizability of Music Mood Regression Models
The goal of music mood regression is to represent the emotional expression of music pieces as numerical values in a low-dimensional mood space and automatically predict those values for unseen music pieces. Existing studies on this topic usually train and test regression models using music datasets sampled from the same culture source, annotated by people with the same cultural background, or o...
متن کاملA Cross-cultural Evaluation Framework for Behavioral Biometric User Authentication
Today biometric techniques are based either on passive (e.g. IrisScan, Face) or active methods (e.g. voice and handwriting). In our work we focus on evaluation of the latter. These methods, also described as behavioral Biometric, are characterized by a trait that is learnt and acquired over time. Several approaches for user authentication have been published, but today they have not yet been ev...
متن کاملReplicating the positivity effect in picture memory in Koreans: evidence for cross-cultural generalizability.
Older adults' relatively better memory for positive over negative material (positivity effect) has been widely observed in Western samples. This study examined whether a relative preference for positive over negative material is also observed in older Koreans. Younger and older Korean participants viewed images from the International Affective Picture System (IAPS), were tested for recall and r...
متن کاملGeneralizability of Causal and Statistical Relations
The problem of generalizability of empirical findings (experimental and observational) to new environments, settings, and populations is one of the central problems in causal inference. Experiments in the sciences are invariably conducted with the intent of being used elsewhere (e.g., outside the laboratory), where conditions are likely to be different. This practice is based on the premise tha...
